What is radiology? Radiology is the use of radiation for different types of “imaging,” including X-rays. Imaging simply means creating an image of the inner configuration of a dense object, such as part of the human body, with the use of radiant energy. Radiology is a specialization in the medical field. Person that works in this field of medicine is called a medical radiologist. What is a medical radiologist? A radiologist must have graduated in a medical school and has earned an MD degree. A prospecitve radiologist must pass licensing examination, a year of internship, and at least 4 years of residency in radiology. After completing a residency, doctors may choose to enter a fellowship program and sub-specialize in some areas of radiology. Medical radiologist is a person who reads or interprets a medical image (like MRIs, X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds) to locate an injury and determine what kind of injury is. A radiologist operates equipment such as MRI and X-ray machines. A radiologist also detects some abnormalities like tumors. In order to achieve an accurate diagnosis the radiologist must consult with the physician after interpreting the results. The radiologist has a responsibility to obtain clear images and review them.
