Income Of A Physical Therapist

Blog, Physical therapist Comments Off 2

When you have an injury that could hinder you later on if you don’t exercise, you will get an appointment with a physical therapist and he will soon tell you what kind of exercises you must do so you don’t have any permanent consequences. Ever wondered how high the income of a physical therapist is? A physical therapist is a medical practitioner too, so the income of a physical therapist should be rather high. This isn’t far from the truth, although the income of a physical therapist also varies from state to state.

Income of a physical therapist how high is the income?

The average income of a physical therapist is around 75 thousand dollars a year. It’s actually no wonder the income of a physical therapist is so high, because the procedure of getting a license is rather complicated, even though you finished the med school. After your education, you will usually have a doctor’s degree – doctor of physical therapy. Some programs are still offering a Masters degree (in 2009 there were only 15 who offered this degree, while the number of programs offering the doctors degree was around 200), but you can’t become a physical therapist with a bachelors degree anymore. After finishing school and the internship, you will have to pass the National Physical Therapy Examination, and the state you want to work in can then give you a license. The income of a physical therapist will also depend on the state he is working in.

Income of a physical therapist different states, different numbers

Depending on the state, the income of a physical therapist will differ – the lowest income is around 57 thousand dollars a year and the highest is around 120 thousand dollars a year. That’s a big difference in the income of a physical therapist, wouldn’t you agree? Well, this too depends on several factors – for once, the number of therapists working in the state you wish to work in, the living costs which are also different from country to country, so a therapist who is having less income could have more to spend at the end of the month than a therapist with a higher income when you consider the living costs. The income of a physical therapist also depends on the experience – the new graduates will hardly make the same amount as therapists with more than 10 years of experience.

Income of a physical therapist which are the best locations?

Based on the results from 2010, the highest income of a physical therapist was in the states of Alaska, New Jersey and Texas, and the lowest income of a physical therapist was in North Dakota, Montana and Vermont. Even though those incomes vary, the highest income of a physical therapist doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have more money – you have to take other factors into consideration, like the living costs and number of other practitioners of physical therapy.
